Dal Zotto Estate - A new Begining

After 20 years Dal Zotto has a new home...... and the King Valley has a new hub.

This year marks 20 years since Otto and Elena Dal Zotto planted their first vines in Cheshunt and what a way to celebrate...not with a party, but a new home in Whitfield, with a new cellar door, a restaurant on the property, and beautiful grounds that will provide the backdrop for a mouthwatering calendar of seasonal events.

The Whitfield property has actually been in the Dal Zotto family since 1998, when their second vineyard was planted, also coincidentally the year that Michael and Christian joined their parents in the business, Michael now Winemaker and Christian, Sales & Marketing Manager.

Situated in the heart of Whitfield, the new Dal Zotto Estate enjoys a prominent position in the region and has quickly become a ‘must visit’ King Valley experience.

They have also teamed up with talented local chef (and Otto and Elena’s nephew), Adam Pizzini, who owns and manages Rinaldo’s restaurant on the property. Adam’s dishes are the perfect accompaniment to the food friendly Dal Zotto range of wines.

Speaking of the wines, with 20 years that began with plantings of chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, later shiraz and in 1998, the first of the Italians, Sangiovese and Barbera, there was always room for something new. So next came Arneis and Pinot Grigio and, in 2002, Australia’s first commercial quantity of Prosecco, responsible for the great sparklings of Italy’s Veneto region.

Otto had wanted to make aProsecco ever since he tended vines of the variety as a young man in his home town of Valdobbiadene. With their second vintage (2005) released, Otto’s dream is now a successful reality, the reaction to both sparklings being  tremendous.

Recent and upcoming releases from the rest of the range include the 2006 Arneis, 2006 Pinot Grigio, 2004 Barbera and the much-anticipated 2002 Cabernet Merlot, Gold Medal winner at the 2005 Adelaide Wine Show (class 51Cabernet blends, 2002 or older).

It was the only Gold awarded in the class, and in the famously tough Adelaide show, a proud achievement for the Dal Zotto family.

Australian Wine History is Made - Dal Zotto Prosecco

Dal Zotto Prosecco 2004 - an Australian Wine Industry First!

Australian wine history will be made with the forthcoming release of Dal Zotto Prosecco 2004. The first ever Prosecco wine produced in Australia.

Who could be better entrusted with this task than Otto Dal Zotto. Prosecco is the famous signature wine of his home town of Valdobbiadene in Italy and this release is the culmination of his dream to produce this variety in his new home in the King Valley.

Another outstanding example of Italy’s and the King Valley’s cornucopia of grape varieties, the white Prosecco grape (pronounced proh-SEHK-koh) is valued for its aromatics and delicate flavours. Resulting in a light, dry, crisp sparkling wine that pairs exceptionally well with seafood and pastas.

Watch out for news of the release date and the opportunity to be the first to try the first Prosecco in Australia.
