| Genteel and a slice of what Melbourne might have been like in simpler times, tea and scones rule here still. And let's not forget the pinwheel sandwiches, lamingtons and vanilla slices. Etiquette, ladies, etiquette! Are you ready to indulge in the polite mannerisms of early last century? The Hopetoun Tea Rooms are for you. It's as though the ghosts of the members of the Victorian Ladies' Work Association, which originally opened the tea rooms in the 1800s, still remain. Once in the door, you are transported to eras gone by due to the vintage decor that still remains intact. Expect old favourites like pinwheel sandwiches, grilled ham, cheese and pineapple toasties and Welsh rarebit. But if it's the traditional lamingtons and vanilla slices you're after, get in early because they usually sell out before midday.
